RMSA is a non-political, non-profit organisation which provides a forum for the discussion of issues important to rural South Australia.
Because of its broad membership base, RMSA represents a valuable networking opportunity for individuals, groups and organisations within the rural sector in this State.
RMSA also provides a forum to exchange ideas and information of vital importance to the ongoing development, productivity and quality of life of the State's primary industries and regional communities. RMSA is affiliated with other state-based rural journalist organisations in NSW, Victoria, Queensland and WA and is a member of the Australian Council of Agricultural Journalist (ACAJ) and the International Federation of Agricultural Journalists (IFAJ).

Rural Media South Australia (RMSA) is the State's key industry media forum devoted to the rural sector.
With a membership of more than 140, it is one of the largest media associations in Australia.
RMSA has been operating since 1970. If you are involved with or interested in any aspect of rural life and rural industry in South Australia, you are encouraged to become a member of this important network.
RMSA members include:
• Journalists, executive producers, editors and photographers from metropolitan and regionally-based media organisations.
• State and Federal politicians, ministerial press secretaries and advisers.
• Senior executive and promotion officers from rural industry organisations such as the Australian Wheat Board, PIRSA, South Australian Farmers Federation, SA Dairy farmers Association.
• Researchers and technical advisers from government and industry.
• Consultants from the private sector, including primary production, enterprise management, the media and public relations.
• Representatives of leading national private and government financial institutions.
• Leading primary producers.
What does RMSA do?
RMSA meets monthly, or more frequently if an important issue arises. Meetings are usually lunches (12.00 for 12.30 and timed to finish by 2.00pm) at central or industry venues, including the Adelaide Oval and the Adelaide Showground. Depending on the issue and the availability of the speaker, breakfast meetings and press conferences are also convened.
• RMSA publishes InterMEDIA, a regular newsletter which is provided to members as part of their membership fees.
InterMEDIA includes information about RMSA meetings, snippets of information relevant to members, and a diary of upcoming events in the rural sector. InterMEDIA is delivered to the majority of members via email and post.
• RMSA provides an opportunity to listen to and question the State's Minister for Primary Industries.
• RMSA coordinates the annual Telstra BigPond Rural Media Awards for journalists and photographers.
The awards attract significant sponsorship from organisations including Telstra, PIRSA and Alltech; and recognise journalists and photographers who demonstrate sustained commitment to rural issues and people in SA.
• RMSA recognises outstanding contributions to the Association and the rural sector through the presentation of Honorary Life Membership awards.
How is RMSA organised?
RMSA is managed by a committee of volunteers, elected at a annual general meeting held in July each year. An annual membership fee of $50 is charged to cover administrative expenses.
